Mattresses

General

Mattresses can be recycled. They can be reused by separating the raw materials. That is why mattress suppliers increasingly take away old mattresses. You can also present the mattress to the council for collection. So that the mattress can be reused properly, it has to be dry.

Drop-off in person

The waste recycling centre will accept the mattress free of charge.

Collection

If it is difficult to drop off the mattress, you can arrange for it to be collected free of charge. You can only do this if you make an appointment and if the mattress is in the correct mattress bag.

Due to other collections, the day you have selected may already be full. Please select a different day.

Make an appointment

Would you like a mattress to be collected? You will need a mattress bag to ensure that the mattress stays dry whilst awaiting collection.

Costs

Drop-off or collection of mattresses is free of charge.

You can collect the mattress bag that you require free of charge. If this is sent to you by post costs apply.

Rules for putting out the mattress for collection

  • Place the mattress in front of your house by the road (not in your garden).
  • The mattress must be dry.
  • Use a mattress bag provided by the council.
  • Seal the mattress bag with tape or rope.
  • You can collect a mattress bag for free, or it can be sent to you, which you would pay for.

Collection starts at 06:00 hours. You can put waste out from 21:00 hours the evening before. To prevent additional waste being added to your waste, it is better to put it outside in the morning.

The council will only collect mattresses that have been presented correctly for collection. Arrange your mattress bag on time.
