Parking checks by scan cars

Breda Council uses scan cars to check parked cars. The scan car checks whether a car is allowed to park in a particular place. The scan car takes a photo of the number plate and checks the parking permit or payment details in the system. You will recognise the scan cars by the cameras on their roofs and the wording ‘Scanauto’ (Scan car) and ‘Handhaving Gemeente Breda’ (Breda Council Enforcement) on the side.

What you need to know

  • The scan car takes a photo of the number plate.
  • If you see the scan car and you haven't yet paid, you have 10 minutes to make the payment after the scan car has taken a photo.
  • The system is checked to see whether there is a valid parking permit or whether the full parking costs have been paid.
  • If there is no valid parking permit or if the parking costs haven't been paid, the registered owner will receive a parking fine within 2 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

You are allowed to load and unload. It must be clear in the photos taken by the scan car that you are loading or unloading.

The photos of the vehicle will only be saved if a parking fine is issued. If the driver objects to the fine, the photo may be needed as evidence. The photo will be destroyed after the deadline for submitting an objection has passed.
