Parking exemption

General

You can apply for a traffic rules exemption if you have to park or drive a vehicle or truck in a place where that is prohibited. To carry out, for example, work that is required, or because the place you need to access is otherwise inaccessible. Take into account the time required to deal with this application.

Request

If you need to drive into the city centre pedestrian zone with your vehicle outside of the permitted entry times, request an Exemption for driving into the city centre pedestrian zone.

City centre permitted entry times: 
Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri and Sat: 07:00 - 11:00 hours and 17:00 - 19:00 hours.
Thurs: 07:00 - 11:00 hours
 

What you need to know

An exemption is only issued:

  • if the vehicle is required to carry out work
  • if goods have to be delivered to addresses not located on an accessible road  
  • for a house move 
  • for transport by taxi
  • to transport individuals with healthcare needs

The exemption is issued per number plate. 

Types of exemptions

  • day exemption
  • a temporary exemption for a maximum of 3 months
  • a long-term exemption for a maximum of 1 year for recurring work and activities

Processing time

Once the application has been approved, a day exemption or temporary exemption will be issued within 10 working days. For a long-term exemption, the council will reach a decision within 8 weeks.

Change of vehicle registration plate

If you already hold an exemption, but your vehicle number plate is changing, please contact the council.

For some roads or areas you will need a key to open the bollards. The deposit for this key is € 100.
