Certificate of good conduct

A certificate of good conduct is a proven track record of good behaviour. You need this if you are going to work in e.g. education or childcare. You can apply for a certificate of good conduct online, together with your employer. If that is not possible, make an appointment to make the application yourself, at the desk.

What you need to know

  • You apply for a certificate of good conduct in the municipality where you live.
  • The Ministry of Security and Justice (Justis) screens a person applying for a certificate of good conduct before issuing one.
  • The certificate of good conduct or rejection letter is sent by post to your home address, 2 to 4 weeks after your application.
  • Volunteers can apply for a certificate of good conduct online, free of charge. The organisation where the volunteer works can apply for one at Justis (Dutch).
  • If you live abroad or if you do not have a permanent residence, you can apply for a certificate of good conduct at Justis (Dutch).

You will need the following

  • a fully completed certificate of good conduct application form. You can obtain this from your (future) employer. This must be the most recent version of the form
  • valid proof of ID
  • your PIN card or creditcard

If you are authorising someone, this person must also bring the written authorisation, valid proof of ID and a copy of your proof of ID.

Costs

  • The costs are € 33.85 when applying online together (employer and employee) at Justis.
  • The costs are € 41.35 when applying at the desk of the Municipality of Breda.

Volunteers can apply for a certificate of good conduct online, free of charge. The organisation where the volunteer works can apply for one at Justis (Dutch).
